Dear Esvee Sir,

Am not sure, if it is the inspiration or attachment towards "Pa" series film of NT, One film that always relish of MT is "Paasam". Many fans of MT might not like this film because of the sober nature BUT am sure, if they sit and watch the film, they will be able to appreciate the film to a larger extent. Having said that, I do not blame those fans, because, they always want their hero to smile, to entertain them, to make their worries disappear atleast for that 2 plus hours.

The storyline has some small essence of "Maniyosai" but for the handicapped nature of KalyanKumar. Am not sure which came first..Paasam or Maniyosai. The essence i find it resembling..ie., discarding the child.

PAASAM..had all the ingredients of a successful film even-though, it was not appreciated to the expected levels. When we talk about the performance of PAASAM....The surprise element is MT himself. We can see many highlights of his performance in-terms of much underestimated department "Acting". Especially the Climax, where he thinks too much about the family and mother MVR, that strains him and gives a cardiac arrest....Another scene is the conversation between SarojaDevi and himself just before the climax... We can list many more in this film ..his confrontation with M.R.Radha..! is another scene.

The opening song " Ulagam Pirandhadhu Enakkaga..Oadum Nadhigalum Enakkaga" the usual MT brand of electrifying performance .going along with the bullock card and jumps and sits on it as he sings....etc., are few of the scenes that still lingering in my mind.

My personal view is that, probably, if the director could have changed some scenes and ensured a positive ending..something like Police arresting MT and sending him to Jail and he gets released after few years and marrying his lady love..., the film's success would have been talked as the highlight of the year. Unfortunately, i do not know for what reason, the end was too tragic...!

Still, this film is very close to my heart ...I would have seen this film atleast 5 to 6 times...( Twice I watched in Theatre. 1. Plaza while i was studying 7th or 8th standard. Rs.2.90 was the ticket fare....I remember it well because the previous day, I went matinee for Alayamani in Paragon same 2.90 fare and Evening I went for Makkal Kalaignar Jai Shankar's Iravum Pagalum in Chitra theater. So, it was 3 Movies in 2 days. I was staying in Triplicane for about 19 years which helped me to watch so many films of NT,MT and JS. 2. Star (Noon-show)I think the ticket cost was around Rs.3.25 or 4.25 or something)

I have not seen this film oflate in any of the channel. If they showcase, I will certainly watch it once more. !

A film not to be missed !

I would request you to give your opinion and views and happenings during PAASAM ...so that instead of talking again and again about Blockbusters like EVP,USV,AP etc., it will also give an insight to others who have not seen PAASAM or not in favour of PAASAM like other films to understand the reality part of it.
