Hello Meerra - how are you doing

Sangeetha - enjoy your pregnancy and stay active and safe.. eat healthy

Madhu - Happy Birthday, have a blast..

    Hello to all KK members..

My dad's brother passed away recently due to cancer (in the stomach).. Such sad news.. They diagnosed it only in his last stage and then it was too late to help.
No one in my family had any awareness of cancer, whenever he had stomach pains it was mistook for normal indigestion etc and he will have carbonated drinks to calm his stomach..
Also there was no history of any diseases in the family since grandparents and dad n his brothers grew up in villages with fresh air and good water and led a active life. They were using all these factors and kept telling themselves they are healthy and nothing can happen.. It should be a simple problem in the stomach. By the time the diagnosis was done it has affected his liver and he passed away because of organ failure.

So much advertisements all around us in tv, hoardings etc to detect cancer early and now only i understood its importance..

I'm trying these days to avoid hotel food and make food at home how much ever i can.. I can remember how in our grandparents house eating in hotels will be a luxury, how things have changed now and all these diseases are creeping up..

Sorry for the long post... Just writing in to create awareness among KK family members so they take care of themselves well and their near and dear ones. We lost him not because of the disease but simply because of lack of awareness about the disease

Dear Priya, first my condolences, I know the pain of loosing a beloved one.
May his soul rest in peace.

Glad to see you after a long time in the forum.
Nice post of yours, let us all take care of our health.
Glad that you tried out many dishes.
Do visit the forum when ever time permits.
    Take care Priya, Kugan

    Method:
Cut the tofu into one inch cubes, fry it in oil till golden. Set aside.

Heat the 1 tbs of oil, add in the chopped onions and garlic.

Thanks Priya for your nice post.
Priya, as. I have said before, no two houses cook the same type of sambar.
The same goes to this tavala dosai.
Every household has its own recipe and method.

It is something like the adai, only few ingredients change.
Some will do it thick like chapathi , and some will do like dosai.

O.k I am cooking tavala dosai for dinner, just like my grandma.
I will post with pictures soon. Take care, Kugan

    TAVALA DOSAI (Kugan )

Here Priya, our style of tavala dosai. Kugan

    TAVALA DOSAI

    Ingredients:

    (A)
    2 cups raw rice
    ¾ cup chana dal
    ¼ cup toor dal
    2 tbs urad dal

    (B)
    ½ cup grated coconut
    1 tsp cumin seeds
    1 small piece of ginger
    ½ tsp black pepper
3 dry red chillies, cut into pieces

    (C)
    Salt
    1 ½ cups sour curds

    (D)
    1 tsp oil
    1 sprig of curry leaves
    Little asafetida powder
    ½ tsp mustard seeds
    ½ tsp urad dal

    Method:
Soak all the ingredients in (A) for about 2 hours.
Strain, add in all the ingredients in (B).
Grind the ingredients to a coarse batter.
Add in the salt and curds, mix well and leave it for about ½ an hour.

Now heat a pan with the oil, add in all the seasoning ingredients in (D)
Pour it over the prepared batter, mix well.
The batter should be a little thick. Pour as thick dosai.
Apply oil all around and cook on both sides.

Remove and serve with your choice of chutney.
    I made coconut katti chutney.
    Very nutritious dosai.
