'Maadi Veetu Maapillai' (1967) is actually a remake of the successful Hindi movie 'Sasuraal' (1962) starring Rajendra Kumar and B. Saroja Devi which had beautiful songs. Chalapathi Rao, the MD for 'Maadi Veetu Maapillai' tried his best to replicate the original songs and he was almost successful at it. If you listen to both Sasuraal and Maadi Veetu Maapillai you will know. Yes, Ravichandran did a sober role just like what Rajendra Kumar did in Sasuraal. All of us were a bit disappointed because we missed Ravi's signature performance. Rajendra Kumar was a toned down character actor unlike the brash Shammi Kapoor who can be equated with Ravichandran. Nevertheless, Ravichandran did justice to his role and carried it quite well.

A small digression - when AVM Productions were shooting 'Anbe Vaa' in Simla, the Indian armed forces who were stationed there (nearly all were Sikhs or Northern Indians) recognized Saroja Devi because of her heroine role in 'Sasuraal'. She had also acted in some negligible Hindi films thereafter. Poor MGR! This was the first time for him when Indian film fans did not know who he was. Of course, it was remedied the following day when a formal gathering to introduce the film crew to the jawans was arranged where MGR generously donated a large sum for the peacekeeping forces welfare.

மீண்டும் வாழ்வேன்

இந்த படம் வாங்க கஷ்ட பட்ட மாதிரி வேறு எந்த படத்துக்கும் கஷ்ட பட்டது கிடையாது .
சாரதா மேடம் எழுதனதை வைத்து தான் நிறைய ஜெய் & ரவி சார் படங்களை தேடினேன் . அந்த வகையில் தான் இந்த படத்தை பத்தி அறிந்தேன் . இந்த படத்தின் DVD கிடைக்கவில்லை , நான் சொல்வது 2 வருடம் முன்பு . கோவை யில் உள்ள அணைத்து DVD கடைகளிலும் கேட்டு சலித்து விட்டேன் . சென்னை வரும் போதும் தேடினேன் , ஏமாற்றம் மட்டுமே மிஞ்சியது . இந்த நேரத்தில் தான் அந்த பொம்மை பாடல் பார்க்க நேர்ந்தது . அப்போ தான் இந்த படத்தின் பெயர் தெரிந்தது . தெரியாத ஒரு படத்தை தேடினது நான் ஒருவன் அக தான் இருக்க முடியும் .
இதுக்கு அப்புறம் இந்த படத்தை முரசு தொலைகாட்சியில் போடும் பொது எல்லாம் வேலை இருக்கும் இல்லை கரண்ட் இருக்காது . ஒரு நாள் இந்த படத்தை ஆன்லைன் ல் பார்த்தேன் , டிவி பிரிண்ட் தான் ஆனால் சுமார் தான் .
ஒருவன் முழு மனதாக ஒரு விஷயத்தை தேடும் பொது கிடைக்காமல் போகாதே , என்னக்கு கிடைத்து அந்த படத்தின் DVD சுமார் 6 மாதங்கள் முன்பு .
இந்த படத்தை நானும் , என் தந்தையும் பார்த்தோம் , ரசித்தோம்
இந்த பதிவுகாக மீண்டும் ஒரு முறை பார்க்கும் பொது என்னக்கு இந்த படம் ஒரு கிளாசிக் போலே தெறிந்து
பொதுவாகவே என்னக்கு ராமண்ணா , TN பாலு படங்களில் ஒரு விருப்பம் , காரணம் அதில் உள்ள விறுவிறுப்பு , பொழுது போக்கு அம்சங்கள்

அதிலும் ரவி , ராமண்ணா, TN பாலு படங்களுக்கு கூடுதல் விருப்பம் .

அந்த வகையில் ரவி , TN பாலு , நாகேஷ், தேங்காய் ஸ்ரீனிவாசன் , நாகேஷ் , பாரதி , மேஜர் கூட்டணியில் வந்த படம் தான் இது. (இவர்கள் அனைவரும் ஏதேனும் ஒரு முறை TR ராமண்ணா, TN பாலு, ரவி உடன் வேலை செய்து இருப்பார்கள் )

இந்த படத்துக்கு என் இந்த தலைப்பு என்று தெரியவில்லை , படத்துக்கு பொறுத்த தலைப்பு தான் , இருந்தாலும் ரவி , TN பாலு க்கு கம் பாசக் movie யா என்று தெரியவில்லை .
படம் பெயர் போடும் போதே MSV தன் வேலை யை செய்து நம்மளை கலக்கி இருப்பார் , BGM சூப்பர் . ஒரு thriller படத்துக்கு உண்டான இசை
தொடர்ந்து ரவி மற்றான் பிள்ளை கொடுமை யை அனுபவித்து , விட்டை விட்டு வெளியே செல்கிறார் . அவர் தந்தை மேஜர், தம்பி கோபாலகிருஷ்ணன் .

சென்னையில் அவர் banker ராஜமாணிக்கம் தின் உதவியால் ஒரு டாக்ஸி டிரைவர் அகுகிறார் .
ஒரு நாள் அவர் டாக்ஸி யில் ஏறும் பெண்களை கண்காணிக்கும் பொது அவர்கள் பாரதியை கடத்த திட்டம் போடுவது தெரியவருகிறது .
பீச் யில் , swimsuit ல் ( கண் உறுத்த glamour ) அறிமுகம் அகுகிறார் பாரதி
வெள்ளி முத்துகள் பாடல் ல் , ரவி யும் கூட சேர்ந்து கொள்ள , பாடல் சட்ட்று நீளம் இருந்தாலும் சபாஷ்

தொடர்ந்து ரவி யும் , பாரதியும் கார் ல் போகும் பொது ரேடியோ வில் ஓடும் பாடல் லவ் பண்ணுங்க சார் நல்ல தமாஷ் .

ஒரு நாள் இரவு பாரதி யின் முதலாளி ராஜமாணிக்கம் , தன் தம்பி மனோகர் கொலை செய்து விடுகிறார் . பழி பாரதியின் மீது .
பாரதி ஆஸ்பத்திரில் இருக்கும் பொது அவர் மனோகர் ஆட்கள் கடாதி விடுகிறார்கள் , அதுக்கு ரவி யின் டாக்ஸி யை உபயோகித்து விடுகிறார்கள் , இந்த விஷயம் தெரியும் பொது , ரவி ஒரு
வீடுக்கு செல்கிறார் அந்த வீட்டில் இருபது நாகேஷ். நாகேஷ் உதவியால் ரவி மனோகர் யின் இருப்பிடம் அறிந்து தன் சண்டை திறமையால் (பில்லியர்ட்ஸ் டேபிள் fight ) கவர்ந்து அவர் கூடத்தில் சேர்ந்து , எதிர்பாரதவிதமாக தன் தம்பியை சுட்டு விடுகிறார்கள் எதிரிகள் , ரவிச்சந்திரன் மயிர் ஏழை யில் உயிர் தப்பி விடுகிறார் .
தன் அப்பா , அம்மா (சித்தி) விடம் உண்மை யை சொல்லி விடுகிறார் . அவர்கள் முலம் மனோகர் தன் குடும்பத்தை சித்ரவதை செய்வது அறிந்து , பழி வாங்க புரபடுகிறார் .

மேஜர் தன் முதல் மனைவி இறந்த உடன் கிளப் போக ஆரம்பிக்கிறார் . அங்கே அவர் விஜயலலிதா வை கொன்றதாக பழி சுமக்க நேர்கிறது .
உண்மையில் விஜயலலிதா மனோகர் யின் ஆசை நாயகி .

நாகேஷ் , ரவி , டாக்டர் வேஷம் போட்டு மீண்டும் மனோகர் கூடாரத்தில் நுழைகிறார்கள் . மாறுவேடம் கச்சிதம் . அங்கே பாரதியை காப்பாத்தி ,மனோகர் விஜயலலிதா வை கொள்ள திட்டம் தீட்டி இருப்பது அறிந்து விஜயலலிதா வை காப்பாத்த பாரதி , நாகேஷ் யை பொம்மை வேடத்தில் உன்ன நினனிச்ச (superb சாங், choreography , பொம்மை sounds ) பாடலில் முலம் விஜயலலிதா வுக்கு சிக்னல் குடுகிறார்கள் . விஜயலலிதா வை ரவி டாக்டர் வேடத்தில் வந்து காபாத்தி விடுகிறார் .
மனோகர் தன் தம்பி யை கண்டுபிடித்து விடுகிறார் , ஆனால் தன் நண்பர்கள் சாமர்த்தியத்தால் அந்த பையன்(மாஸ்டர் சேகர் ) தப்பித்து விடுகிறார் (ராஜமாணிக்கம் பையன் தான் மாஸ்டர் சேகர் , அவர் பெயர் யில் தான் சொத்து இருக்கிறது )
ரவி அந்த பையன் யை எப்படி காபாத்தி பாரதி உடன் சேர்கிறார் என்பதே கிளைமாக்ஸ்


இந்த படத்தில் ரவி மீண்டும் தன் சுறுசுறுப்பை காட்டி இருகார் , பாரதி உடன் அடுவதாய் இருக்கட்டும் , மாறுவேடம் கிட்ட தட்ட 3 get up , சண்டை காட்சியில் அனல் பறக்றது , குறிப்பாக , billards fight .
பாரதி as உசுஅல் neat , ச்லேஅன், glamour ரோல் இதில் ஆன் வேடம் வேறு கலக்கல் , பாரதி யின் உடை swim suit ,கிரீன் டிரஸ் , leggins (white saree ), கிராமத்து பெண்ண உடை வாங்க யா வாங்க பாடலில் நன்றாக செய்து இருகார்

Meendum Vazhven had an average run only when it was released in 1971. That was a surprise to most of us as this film had all the ingredients of a successful film - a stellar cast, colour, beautiful scenic shots, excellent fight stunts, excellent songs and music. All of us thought it will celebrate a longer run but alas, it was never to be so. Most of TN Balu's films will have signature night chasing scenes in cities or towns and sometimes we used to wonder whether they were shot in India or overseas. The cities or towns always looked well developed and definitely they are not settings. And this was TN Balu's first colour film hence the additional features.

That Singaporean Chindian guy ( those who are of Chinese Indian parentage are called like that both in Malaysia and Singapore) actually is an amputee. I forgot his name. He used to always act in TN Balu's films so naturally and with flawless delivery of the Tamil language. In Meendum Vazhven he carried himself quite well. I remember that he, Ravichandran and Singapore Madhavi used to pass comments on others in the sets conversing in the Malay language much to the chagrin of those present. Of course, it use to be done in jest since the trio were from the same region.

It was in this film that Ravichandran proved his mettle in the old man's get-up. Hitherto, such a makeup was befitting MGR, Shivaji, Gemini and SSR. Of course, Ravi carried the songs very well especially the 'Vellimuthukkal...' number where he exhibits his trademark style and mannerism. This song had an unique feature wherein the sound of sea side waves were included by MSV. All the songs ( by Kaviarasar Kannadhasan) were beautiful especially the philosophical 'Ellorkum Vendum Nalla Manadhu' but some or rather did not create a sensation.

If I am not mistaken this movie had to compete with big banner movies of both MGR and Shivaji plus Ravi's own 'Nangu Suvargal' at the time of release which was one of the reasons for it to be taken off. I stand corrected, though.

Meendum vazhven ranks among one of my all time favourite entertainers. The simple fact that is from the best showman of Tamil Industry Ravi and the best beauty of that time Barathi and from the ultimate Entertainer T.N.Balu. Right from the word go,it is a grand show all the way.
The scenes that I enjoyed most are
1)velli muthukkal nadanamadum (barathi in Single piece!)
2)Manohar and Ravi smiling at each other in Police station.(Ravi knows manohar but Manohar doesnt know Ravi)
3)Unnai nenaichcha Bommai Dance)
4)Manohar's action of not shooting down a teacher and letting her go while kidnapping children.
5)Ravi's old get up.
over all Ravi gave a convincing performance even emote effectively.
This movie is dear to my heart. It was not a wash-out like nangu Suvargal but ran to average success.(Actually it deserved much better)
