Asin's Comeback With Kamal Hassan

Directed by Ramesh Aravind and produced by Linguswamy, Ulaga Nayagan's next is titled 'Uththama Villain'. The film is expected to start rolling from next month and the crew was in frantic search of the apt heroine for the film. Kajal Aggarwal was first approached, but she could not accommodate the film in her calendar and hence backed off.

So the crew zeroed in on Asin as their choice and the actress was readily willing to accept the offer. This makes it the second time that Asin is paired up with Kamal Hassan, taking 'Dasavatharam' into account. 'Uththama Villain' has the screenplay and dialogues by Crazy Mohan. Kamal is currently busy with 'Vishwaroopam 2' and is rushing up with the post production work, as he wishes to get 'Uththama Villain' on the floors once 'Vishwaroopam' sequel is completely done with. For Asin, who was looking for the perfect relaunch in Kollywood, 'Uththama Villain' is the right opportunity, don't you think?

What happened to Kamal's directorial venture in Hollywood with LoR producer? Is it still on? It is time for Kamal to play with big guys in Hollywood now. I don't think he has anything left to prove to TN or India.

'thevar magan' - everything about the film is so bloody organic, earthy feel - a classic beyond compare - a writers delight - opening scenes: Kamal & Gowthami meeting SG, Gowthami stumbles distracted by the firecrackers, KH tries to stop her from falling, SG winces looking at KH's hand grasping Gowthami who recovers and turns her head to watch the firecrackers, SG tells KH abt his brother's drinking habit, camera zooms out to the sky and goes over to the other family of Mayan watching the crackers and their conversation ending with 'santhanam minjinaa K***iyila poosuvaagalaam' - the entire segment runs for 2 and half minutes !!

in just under 3 min, the screenwriter tells us multiple things abt what is unfolding using cues and motifs linking one thing to another - brilliant scriptwriting!

listen to IR using the sitar and tabla when Gowthami gets out of the car - a strange discordant note played on the sitar which is an alien instrument to the thevar bhoomi, just as the telugu 'sakkalathi' is an alien to the community!

Silent .. No word yet on Hollywood venture. He generally likes an easy movie after a hard one. His way of stretching and taking it easy I think

I think he has lot of confidence in his screen writing skills, he is writing the scripts almost 75% of his films post Aboorva sagodharargal ..

^ He was asked to rate himself out of ten as a screeplay writer in an NDTV interview at the time of the release of Dasavathaaram- In that he said he is pretty good and one of the best in the country. Call it arrogance or the lack of political correctness-but personally I find it hard to refute his statement. His effective handling of a wide range of genres over the years talks of his talent. Well one could argue that he's lost a lot of subtlety in his recent efforts . But who give's a damn.
