But still the movie was more profitable than either one of Ayan/Singam which was disclosed by the man who distributed both the movies,Hansraj Saxena.
And for fans falling prey to favoritism, I would request you to check threads of last movies of the actors you mentioned, before coming to a conclusion.
Ajaybaskar,
Your points .. just got a feeling that there weren't much critical reviews (in this thread) for this mediocre movie.
Vijay being one of the leading actors has enough say to influence the storyline in Thalaiva - Godfather concept has been beaten to death in last 3 decades. If he really wanted to make one, he should have atleast made sure it didn't resemble any of the existing ones and had something fresh. You probably know what I'm talking about. The fact that he didn't do it contributed to mixed reviews all over.

Please don put makeup on you as though you guys are the most best person to accept the fact ur star has given crap movie. See Thalaiva is not the end, lots of movies are lined up for all the stars, Let me see how many genius like u are giving positive critic for any movie.. I will come to ur threads and will ask quoting you for a gentleman review. Bye until then now..
Neenga romba unarchivasa padaraenga ... No makeups! You're coming to a quick conclusion about my preferences. For your information, I'm not a fan of any of the 3 actors in question. Critical reviews from fans will only help actor reach his maximum potential.
After reading poor reviews of Billa2, I haven't even watched the movie. I may soon. But I will call a spade a spade and dud a dud regardless of who's there in the movie. Just in case, I did post a review of Singam 2 in that thread ....

Surya is still evolving into a mass hero and comparing fan fanaticism of the other 2 with his is a little far-fetched, to begin with, IMHO.
The other 2 in question here, both have their share of fanatics who celebrate their star, no matter what he delivers on screen. Calling one group 'less-intense' than the other is all but down to individual perception, IMHO.
Movies such as Kavalan, Nanban or Thuppakki wouldn't have happened, (as Ajay had said) if Vijay was not taken to the cleaners during his 'Villu-Sura' days. Fans, who were worried about their star's future raised their arms/voice against his choice of movies and there you go, you see a marked improvement in his selection of script/directors' now.
Kavalan though a remake, had signature Vijay all over it. He did manage to evolve his own style there. Nanban, despite an Amir Khan special, the Tamil version saw Vijay holding his own. Thuppakki was an original script that reached far, deep and high. Though, these 3 cannot be termed the 'perfect' or the 'best', still multi-fold times better than what Vijay churned in during his 'Villu-Sura' days.

As so has, a Gangster or a police concept too, but still people try to offer something fresh or something new every time, as you have written above. Sometimes it works, sometimes not. Thalaivaa's jury is not completely out as, yet (though mixed responses) and we will have to wait just a little longer to see the outcome.

Inspite of the delay Thalaivaa got a good opening its first week. Thanks to the humongous support from Vijay fans, though the first day collection was terrific the second and third day shows a drop as the film released in the middle of the week. The weekend reports are good and reports say the film grossed around 21 crores( approx) in Tamil Nadu box office till Sunday. Though it is lesser than a normal Vijay film's collection in recent times the trade is happy with the performance as the piracy is already flooded in the market. The second week Box Office report will say the clear picture on Thalaivaa's box office status that whether it will be a break even for producers or not.
Positives : Vijay,cinematography,Santhanam,Sathyaraj,Amala Paul & first half.
Negatives : Second half, BGM, lack of freshness in the script.
Trade Reports:
A Center : Very Good Opening
B Center : Good Opening
C Center : Good Opening
