1988ல் பிளவு பட்ட அண்ணா திமுக 1989 தமிழ் நாடு சட்ட சபை தேர்தல் தோல்விக்கு பின் மக்கள் திலகத்தின் இயக்கம் ஒன்றாக இணைந்து மீண்டும் ஒன்று பட்ட அண்ணா திமுக இயக்கமாக உருவெடுக்க திருமதி ஜானகி

அவர்கள் கவுரவம் பார்க்காமல் பெருந்தன்மையுடன் விட்டு கொடுத்து 1989-மதுரை - மருங்காபுரி தேர்தலில் இரட்டை இலை
சின்னத்தில்போட்டியிட்ட வேட்பாளர்கள் அமோக வெற்றி பெற்று மீண்டும் அதிமுக என்ற வரலாற்றை உருவாக்கியவர் திருமதி ஜானகி அவர்கள் . இந்த நினைவு நாளில் அவரது பெருமையை நினைவு கூர்வோம் .

Yes as correctly pointed out by one of our friend if this victory is because of MGR what about the 2004 failure, Tsunami came after that only. In the same manner if AIADMK victory was because of NT in 1980 and 1984 then 1989 debacle, which included the defeat of NT, was because of whom?

As regards MGR power it is always there like Climate, weather may vary that is all!

It is very unfortunate that NT’s name is again dragged in MT thread unnecessarily.

I am very sure that NT name should not appear with the names of other persons, who join Party/politics only for money and fame, not for serving the people.

I have never read, till date, any promises given by NT to MGR and that is why he contested in the Election. If any proof is there is would be very welcome.

NT was in politics since 1950’s, which cannot be denied and had tons of experience. If he was not holding any post, we cannot blame him for that the party has to be blamed as to why they did not give him any post. May be they did not want to disturb him in his 24x7x317work schedule. In so far as NT, dedicated artist, is concerned, acting first balance next.

NT was actively involved in canvassing for Congress and Karma Veerar which the world knows. Again if Congress won the elections in 1980 just because of NT canvassed then what happed to the subsequent assembly elections, may be he was not in town? If I do recall correctly NT has said “Indira atachi is Kalangar atchi’ something like that.

Coming to 1984 elections, if AIADMK won just because NT canvassed then what happed in 1989, why AIADMK[VNJ] and TMM party did not win. If I am correct only PH pandian won the election? Now the question of MGR fans betrayed NT, please read the following [link also provided]:

On Jan.28, 1988, Sivaji quit his ties with Congress Party that sustained him for over 30 years. Soon after that, he established his own party named Tamizhaga Munnetra Munnani (TMM) on Feb.10, 1988. He considers this decision as one of his mistakes. “Many of the people with me were professional politicians. They had to remain in politics necessarily to make a living. I was compelled to start a party for their sake, although I did not require it.” Egged on by those who pampered him, his TMM party contested the January 1989 Tamil Nadu state legislative assembly elections, in alliance with one faction of AIADMK (that of MGR’s wife Janaki Ramachandran). Of the 49 TMM candidates who stood for election, none were elected. Sivaji himself lost at Tiruvayaru constituency to DMK candidate Chandrasekaran Durai by a margin of 10,643 votes. He notes, “The votes that I secured came from people of another party. It is true that I was defeated”.

I do not know how far the info. given in the link is true. But my only concern is in every household there is NT. These persons, why all, another 10,644 could have voted for NT which would have been a very proud moment for everyone.

There is no point in arguing, endlessly, had NT been active in politics…….. Facts are Facts. NT was a born actor and he is known for his acting capabilities.

AIADMK’s vote share is the highest since 1977

How much is the AIADMK’s vote share? This question proved tricky for pollsters before the results were declared.

A pre-poll survey of India Today-Cicero estimated that the party’s vote share was 36 per cent, while a post-poll survey by CNN-IBN-CSDS-Lokniti and a pre-poll survey of Thanthi TV-Krish Infomedia gave the party 39 per cent. The forecast of NDTV-Hansa Research’s exit poll was that the AIADMK’s vote share was 48 per cent.

Given that the party contested on its own this time, some observers used the party’s performance in the 2004 Lok Sabha and 2006 Assembly elections as the reference point and reckoned that its vote share was around 30 per cent. The vote share secured by the AIADMK was 29.77 per cent in 2004 and 32.64 per cent two years later. The party contested most seats in both these elections though it had an pact with the BJP in 2004 and the MDMK and the VCK in 2006.

But, in the 2014 polls, the AIADMK proved most of the surveys wrong by bagging 44.34 per cent of the votes. Its performance came close to what it did in 1991. The ruling party’s all-time high in any election, Lok Sabha or Assembly, was 44.39 per cent in the 1991 Assembly polls. But the major difference between now and then was that this time, the party contested on its own, whereas it had an tie-up with the Congress 23 years ago. Not just that. Compared with what it polled in the 1991 Assembly elections, the AIADMK got 70 lakh more votes this time.

Moreover, the party’s latest performance was significant for one more reason as it set the record for the highest vote share in any general election since its maiden fight in 1977. The 2014 performance exceeded its previous high of 30.04 per cent in the 1977 Lok Sabha polls, though on a different electors base.
