Rajini is still doing movies. Billu's statement is true for Rajini. Definitely Kamal is not a threat to Vijay/Ajith in box office. Kamal need Dasa/Viswa kind of movie even to get a grand opening. This may be bitter truth for his fans but that's the truth. Only place where Kamal can get a better opening for a normal movie than this generation duo is abroad.
I have said this before and will say now - Yes, Kamal is not a threat to both Ajith and Vijay when it comes to BO. He plays in a different category and I had consciously avoided him in this. I'm a Kamal fan and its not a bitter truth to most of us. We know where he stands and appreciate him for what he does.

The matter here is Vijay wants to show he is on top.. show of as next Rajini in the name of Super Star and think he can bring all fans under him, which will help him in politics. It is just purely his political motive is what making him to do all these.
And one has to accept, that he has to do everything on record.. because 'varalaaru romba mukiyam' in politics.. words doesnt matter.. only written statement is what going to speak. His track record speaks..100, 200, 300 days poster even for flop movies.. and make sure poster is printed for ALL his movies. Also success meet even before the release and 100 days functions and shield for almost all his movies. No wonder SAC is brainchild for every step that is happening around Vijay. From making 'ilayathalapathy' vijay, 'Doctor' Vijay, trying to make him next MGR to next Rajini, releasing stamp, 'Thalaiva' Vijay, to recently Vijay 'ANNA' and very recent 'next super star'. And also requesting fans to celebrate his birthday on his behalf. Good political move.. one has to do all these to come into politics. SAC knows where he has to take his son, he and his son is clear and cleaver and cunning. it is not good blame vijay, he knows his target.. so he is moving step by step, dont through stone on him, leave him, let him find the destination.
Next time vijay will release a poster for 100th day without out even theatre list, like thala's Arramam

Appa naala vandhutaan - Give it a break. How long you guys hide behind this ? Can you name at least one actor who came from cinema background attained Vijay's level ? Naa enna SAC naalayae fan aanaen ?
You're singling out the SAC part .. That was mainly to respond to Ajay when he said it was because of the golden period that SS and UN made their way to the top. If you read my post fully, it'll make more sense. People arrive at different times but the one who makes full use of it is the ultimate victor.

Billu, I too like Kamal not a fan though. Kamal is in different path. Kamal is not an actor judged in terms of box office. But if one wants to be in top box office also matters.

Even in the US, the hindi version had an awesome run. They all have a massive respect for our SS.
1. I can quote a dozen examples. 4 years back, a Malaysian national (not a Tamil speaking Malay), fully drunk made me sit near him and listen to Raakkamma Kaiya Thattu for 10 minutes. Later he was telling me how Rajanikanth became a star after having worked as conductor and coolie. When I worked in Kolkata, my colleagues used to call me 'the guy from RajiniLand'
I used to argue with them each time but in vain. Now In the US, another set of Hindi-speaking colleagues do the same. Rajini's reach or Rajini mania is something well planned and executed by North Indian media post-Chandramukhi (It started when Eros bought Sivaji's rights & they started paid advertising through TOI and rediff). It is still growing & can not be controlled by anyone.
2. Robot's Hindi version was not a top draw in the North Indian belt. It was just an average grosser & collected about 20 crores. But who cares? As far as NI media is concerned, Rajini can never go wrong & his movies CANT fail.

Andha 'different path' layum 100-200 cr hit kudukkaradhudhan 'kombula paal sorakkuradhu' nu solvaanga. Kamal has been consistently proving his worth in the BO. Except MMA which, I agree, did not even get an opening, none of his recent movies failed. VV, Dasavatharam, Vishwaroopam are his normal movies (not MMA) and they are all among the top grossers in TFI. Idhukku mela BO'la enna kizhikkanum?

I agree, Kamal's Hardcore fan following among the masses is dwindling. That has had an effect on the result of substandard movies like MMA. But a typical KH movie like VR or Dasa attracts the general audience like anything. I'd be glad if UV's result proves me wrong.

VV was his normal movie. Dont say that Dasa and Vishwa were his normal movies. They had their own hype. I am not sure if they are top grossers in TFI. His recent normal movies were MMA and Unnai Pol oruvan and everyone knows what they kizhichified in box office.

A different Kamal movie always has its hype & most Kamal movies are different
. They don't expect Kamal to do run-of-the-mill stuff. There's nothing abnormal about his experiments. In some cases, like Thenaali, even such ordinary movies do exceedingly well. But MMA was bad in quality and business.
With with a shoe-string budget of 12 cr, UPO brought in around 36 cr revenue and 8 crores net profit for RKFI in its 50 day run. It was the 2nd biggest hit of 2009, only next to Ayan & way ahead of Nadodigal, Vettaikaran, Pasanga etc. Please check any of 2009 Box Office report. One such example:-
