தமிழகத்தில் அரசு சார்ந்த தொலைக்காட்சி மட்டுமே இருந்த போது எம்.ஜி.ஆர் படங்கள் ஞாயிறு மாலை 5.30 மணிக்கு ஒளிபரப்பினால் திரையரங்குகளில் பகல், மாலைக் காட்சி வசூல் பாதிக்கும். அதிலும் அன்பே வா, ஆயிரத்தில் ஒருவன், எங்க வீட்டுப்பிள்ளை ஆகிய படங்களை வண்ணத்திலேயே ஒளிபரப்பிய போது திரையரங்கு உரிமையாளர்கள் அலறுவார்கள். தொலைக்காட்சி நிலையத்திற்கு கடிதம் எழுதி எம்.ஜி.ஆர். படங்களை தாமதமாக ஒளிபரப்ப கேட்டுக் கொள்வார்கள். இப்போது தனியார் தொலைக்காட்சிகளில் பழைய படங்களில் எம்.ஜி.ஆர் படங்களே அதிகம் ஒளிபரப்பாகின்றன.
