காதல் என்ற மூன்றெழுத்து வார்த்தை வலையில் கட்டுண்டு கிடந்திராத மானிட வாழ்க்கைப் பதிவு எதுவும் உண்டோ மஹாகவி பாரதியே காதல் காதல் காதல் ..காதல் போயின் சாதல் சாதல்.....என்று பதிவு செய்திட்ட வார்த்தை.....அந்த வார்த்தையின் பிரதிப் பதிவாக என்றென்றும் திரைரசிகர்களின் மனங்களில் 'காதல் மன்னனாக' நிலையான சிம்மாசனத்தில் வீற்றிருக்கும் தமிழ் சினிமாவின் பெருமைக்கும் மக்களின் பேருவகைக்கும் வித்திட்டு மனம் மகிழ்வித்தவரின் பிறந்தநாள் நவம்பர் 17.

Unakkaaga Naan starring Sivaji/Gemini Ganesans in 1976 by Balajee!

But both the above mentioned films seem to be inspired from another movie which came in 1964 called “Becket” starring Richard Burton and the Lawrence of Arabia star Peter O'Toole. In this movie too, a friend is given an important post by the King but the chosen one starts taking his job seriously and in turn becomes the King’s opponent.

Unakkaaga Naan was direct remake of Namak Haraam starring Rajesh Khanna and Amitabh Bachchan. Sivaji fitted to Amitabh and GG to Rajesh Khanna. Hence more screen space went to GG than NT, who never minds particularly when GG is with him!

he story revolves around a rich business magnet befriending a poor and engaging the poor man in the disguise of a trade union leader in his own company for his own benefit. But how that poor lad gets transformed after seeing the perils of working community and 'betrays' the rich friend is the story line! Our film enjoyed a lukewarm response even though the acting was superb with NT and GG!

The On-screen and behind the screen inseparables from GG

Cinema is the most powerful medium for projecting the latent talents of any resourceful person owing to its widest possible coverage at a time. However, the projection of a person to stardom or getting the limelight depends not only on the individual's charm or charisma but also on the teamwork knitted around him like the director of the movie, the lyricist, the dialogue writers, music director, supporting characters.....marketing strategies .....and what not? I intend to write short write-ups on such foundation and pillars that have helped a star to reach his peak and pinnacle of name and fame like NT or GG. For instance, he pivotal anchorage provided by Rangarao, MR Radha, Paaliah, Thangavel, Nagesh, AMRaja and PBS.....like that.Work is on the anvil.
