Western (International) musicians take enormous time to release a single. It comes out with a bonus - Making of the Song - which also gets equal popularity where the musicians and lyricists talk about the song in general including their discussion while the composition.

Namba Mottai, silent-a tune onu pottu, 'next film' nu poita irruparu. I agree to get hold of all their discussions during the pre-production and also, on the composition table. Few films like Guna did try to document the audio of the film, also few interactions with The Great Poet Valli, but it stopped there abruptly and we are bound to beleive whatever is spoken on decorative stages/honorary functions.

Music without lyrics is still music, but lyrics without music is poetry. It depends on the music genre too, for instance, Jazz does not require lyrics to be drowned in divinity.

Singing is more inclined to the lyrics, where the music breaks the sounds (voice and instruments). Vocal and lyrics are more subjective, which are not an object of thought but a placed emphasis on one's mood. Whereas, Music is more responsive - for instance an instrumental of the same song can bias with the current mood, while with lyrics embedded shall force to think otherwise.

    Here is an exemple :

    BGM Aan Pavam (1985)

    Konji Konji from Veera (1994)

You can realise that Aan Pavam melody can be twisted by the mind, but for Konji Konji with the lyrics embeded it hooks a particular emotion inside the mind.

Be it lyrics or vocal or music, I treat them all as sounds. For me language itself is a sound. A music director arranges all, mixing them to vibrate together, sometime by the direction shown by the lyrics or the mood of the vocal or by hooking them together with a memorable music.
