Ok, I'll rephrase that: Yuvan's crooning, at his best, matches up with ARR's. So you say? I'd categorically disagree. Rahman's voice seems far more 'soulful' and rich. If you get what I mean.

Yuvan, of course, is one talented composer (along with Amit Trivedi) of our age. But it's good that he understood (t)his weakness.

As for his acting in that song, I couldn't stand. But then, even Rahman struggles and seems 'stilted' in this respect.

Eventhough Yuvan crooning doesnt match up ARR's rendition....His Voice especially the youthfullness,the energy stands tall when compared to Best singers of His Age...can be seen in recent songs Thakuthey,oh shala,etc..
Please hear oru naalil from puthupettai...pure bliss..

Though its hard to digest, it is a fact. It has become the USP of most of his albums now. Oru naalil is truly an exception and IMO yuvan's masterpiece. Dunno what would have happened if the song was picturised, but it wasnt and, for me at least, the song is till now as exciting as I listened to it the first time. If yuvan composes another one as good as it then I will proudly call myself a Yuvan fan.

Comparing ARR's and Yuvan's voice is really too much. I, at times, feel that yuvan tries a bit too hard to be as soulful as ARR is and ends up like a "nail on a blackboard". ARR in live is a completely different thing but studio'la his voice can't be matched. Examples: the "yaayee yaayee" part in sandaikoozhi song, "sa pa ma pa" in yakai thiri etc etc.. Yebba!!
