Dear Friends,
Haa.. it happened again. Just how I lost my precious thesis document on NT, I lost a long posting on NT just a while ago. I don’t know certain rules of this website. I just logged in and started writing my posting. It took almost 45 minutes and when I gave command for posting, it bounced back saying, you have not logged in. I think there is some time out rules.
Anyway, I write it again:-
God has given me two golden opportunities to seek NT very closely during the making of a film.
In 1982, I first saw NT during the making of Thyaagi – a remake of an Ambareesh Super Hit Kannada Movie. The movie almost ran for 100 days but still, not accepted by Fans due to a particular scene in which, NT would be given mind blowing torture – in fact, Censor authorities too cut some scenes.
My Periyappa was a Chief Storekeeper in AVM Studios who knows my craze for NT (in fact, his second son who is 2 years older than me is also an NT Fan! His eldest son is a fan of Jai Shanker). NT was having torn dresses with blood stains all over the body and I didn’t know the concept of that scene being shot. He was sitting on a sofa casually talking to Major “Majaraa……..” with a puff of 555. He at once comes to the grip of shot immediately when Director CVR called “TAKE”. In fact, it was the climax of the movie in which, NT would appear in front of the court – saptha naadiyum odungiya nilayil. He has to stand and SHOULD NOT STAND! Wow! The way he did that shot.. immediately after that shot the entire crew including Director CVR, Major, co-Artistes, Cinamatographer and the general visitors (normally, few people would be allowed to watch the shooting) rushed to him with so much of emotions – some hugged him..some fell at his feet..some cried (including me of course). I wept at that time and now after death, am continuing to weep whenever I happen to see great performances – only due to the thinking that Oh! What an Actor!!.
In 1987, when Jallikkattu was in the making, again I went to AVM Studios – this time with my younger brother (who too is an ardent NT fan). My brother was studying in an Engg. College at Erode and just arrived at our home in Chennai. It was about 6.45 a.m. on a Saturday on which, I was on a weekly off. My Periyappa also arrived at the same time and asked me and my brother to come to AVM Studies saying that Jallikkattu was being shot with NT in the lead role. We were thrilled and my brother just had a Kaakka Kuliyal and we arrived at AVM Studios sharp at 7.15 a.m. We were residing at Virugambakkam at that time and hence, we just took 10 minutes to reach AVM. NT was majestically sitting at the Judge’s cabin with a Court Set erected. He was sitting alone as usual observing everybody/everything around him. He got a heart attack sometime during late 1986 and in some of the movies, he was rather thin like a patient that no NT fan was able to take it. It was in this movie, that one started seeing a much fresh NT slowly getting back to normal looks but with a slim look of course. My Periyappa then took us to NT and NT started talking to us exactly like my Periyappa in his own slang. He asked me kindly as to where I was working. When I told the Co. in which I was working, he immediately gave certain key info about the Co. and its Promoters (he was having all details in his finger tips!) and I got stunned. I couldn’t speak anything as I got the opportunity to converse with my Idol. Then he turned to my brother and the moment he told NT that he is studying in Erode and has come on vacation, he asked my brother “enna avasarama kaakka kuliyal pottuttu odi vandhutteengalaa!”
Regards,
Partha

Dear Murali Sir,
Nalla idam neengal vandha idam. In fact, this song was sung by NT inviting JJ in Galatta Kalyaanam. It was the first movie in which NT was pairing JJ and Vaalee (I think so I am not sure), wrote it appropriately. Oh the roar and applause in theatres those days, when he says these lines to JJ.
Thank you.
Regards,
Partha

Dear Sir,
Thank you. It really requires monumental and dedicated efforts to do so many activities to remember NT, which you have been doing. I cannot imagine such dedication from my side. I can only enjoy / recollect / share various performances/moments.

M.R. Santhanam acted in various movies like Adutha Veettu Penn. As for NT, he acted in Vide Velli (Father in law to T.R. Ramachandran. In Bale Pandiyaa, as father of Vasanthi. An effortless and a casual performer, who was a great friend of NT while his sons are Director-cum-Actor Santhana Bharathy and R.S.
