Wow this thread is really racking up the gems
and as always am trying to find that window of time to listen to as many as I can
Was thoroughly impressed with the album "Karumbu Vil"
In short,
Malargalaye Aradhanai...gorgoeous interlude...janaki's voice simply matchless
Kaavayirae - uber-romantic duet!!!
Meen Kodi Theril - very cool tribal beats intro, KJ Yesudhas is like the pied piper tempting the listener to follow where his voice goes....am seriously hooked!!

If a director needs a song with new, innovative rhythm pattern, all that he needs to do is tell Raja "sir, there's a tribal song"

During an interesting twitter discussion about Raja's songs in the rare ragam 'Sumaneesaranjani' aka 'Samudhrapriya', came across this lovely Jeyachandran, Swarnalatha duet, 'jal jal jal salangai'. I distinctly remember someone posting about this song earlier and me having heard it once. It was nice to hear it again (and again and again
)
Wonderful singing by Jeyachandran and Swarnalatha: http://www.thiraipaadal.com/tpplayer...0'&lang=en

Excellent find Sureshji!
Sugamana paattu! Jayachandran and Swarnalatha's voice and singing complements each other beautifully. Terrific combination and wonderful composition by Maestro. Nice to know this has been composed in a very rare raaga.
Are there any other songs which they sang together? I know only this one. Thai Maadham from Thambikku Oru Paattu.

After reading the solvanam interview by Suka with Shenoy ustaad, my ears keep their focus on that instrument thru out today and it appears to have a tremendous presence in every top song of IR
For e.g. I did a "singer-wise" play-all for Uma Ramanan in thiraippadal.com today. The first song was 'AgAya veNNilAvE', well there's shenoy in interlude.
Then came 'ARu adhu Azham illa' with a rousing shenoy start after the chorus.
Song after song, it was shenoy mazhai. When 'Anandha rAgam' started - a song known for its string sections and flute, our mangaLa instrument is there in interludes with majestic presence as well.
Jumped into car and the song that came up was 'seevi sinukkeduththu' and I thought "well this is a band song, so only trumpets and such jazzy instruments'. How forgetful I was! The first interlude had shenoy powering its way in the end when IR wanted to stamp that as a themmAngu
They call many shenoy vidwAns as "ustaad". I think all those "ustaads" should give IR a special "ustAd" title for the variety of shenoy usage in his 100's of songs. (Looks like 50% of his major hits have a shenoy presence)...
(BTW, I gave a patient listen to the 'kiZhakku mala' song from kadha thudarunnu today, a song that I normally skip. As expected, it has a very modern sounding - almost synthetic - shenoy in both interludes)
