Actually, No matter how we adore raaja of the current gen, the hit maker in Malayalam, the resilient old horse of TFM and the comeback king of Bollywood, his most prolific time was in the 70s, 80s and 90s. So statistically, it doesnt strike me odd if most of the songs posted here are from that time. his gems of late 90s and 2000s have been rather shabbily treated by the listeners (not all). So occassionally we do find that the ppl in the thread go gaagaa over those as well.. As far as malayalam is concerned, We treat it as much like thamizh and most of it gets thoroughly discussed and enjoyed in the "New Albums" thread itself.. my observation..
Apparently, a democracy is a place where numerous elections are held at great cost without issues and with interchangeable candidates.

While agreeing with Jaiganes, my thoughts are whether the director of the movie is influential in bringing the best out of raja. Every year he comes with a Killer song for Sathyan and I found that missing in many of his recent albums like "Mathiya chennai","Azhagar Malai",'Jagan Mohini" etc etc..
Probably due to the "Fear factor or respect" the younger crop of people don't insist changes. He gives the liberty to Sathyan to choose from a set of 3-4 songs and I doubt how many people in the other industry currently jell with him in this fashion.
If somebody can stand up and lay down their requirements very clearly, the output could be even much better.
Despite the innumerable hits in tamil before, when raja associated with MR there was always that " something special " compositions he reserved for Mani like Ninnukori Varnam or Adi Rakamma. Probably MR also played a big role in the extracting the best.
So in Malayalam,at present, Sathyan takes MR's seat...Just my thoughts again...
