While the serene Kai veenayai by Bombay Jayashree
Saamikku naan pooparikka, thaam tharikitathom by mano and chorus have been very popular when the movie released,
The ones that caught me by surprise are
Yenakku Ullathellam Swarnalatha 5:05 Not Available
Yennamo Solla Chorus, Mano, Swarnalatha 5:08 Not Available
I have no recollection of seeing these songs in the movie..
The first one is an almost MSV style song with melodious tune, effortless rendering by Swarnalatha - very breezy and the subdued mood is so well reflected by the orchestration and the singer's rendition.
The second song is the googly of the album - A flummoxing question of a song - which has so many of those "modulations ( diatonic and chromatic appingraangale ) that Raaja consciously attempts, plus the stop - gap - proceed kind of light rock instrumentation. The rock genre is accentuated by the way Mano hits the bass tone with a light echo..
All in all this song is a "20 mark" question from the composer in a board exam. I will have to say that the anwer is very complex one to write down.
Long after we are gone, there will be a generation of music listeners who would answer the questions in this song (hopefully).
Apparently, a democracy is a place where numerous elections are held at great cost without issues and with interchangeable candidates.

What's a googly?![]()
Sounds like you're cricket-agnostic.
Please read this : http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Googly
It is a delivery in cricket bowled by a leg spinner that spins the other way and fools the batsmen.

Jai,
I also have no recollection of 'Yenakku Ullathellam'. I have seen this movie and at that time I thought the songs weren't too good!!! Now I have to think differently. This Swarnalatha song is superb. As you say, a very MSVish melody. Maybe now having got used to his synth, I can enjoy the song more.

Listening to 'Gayam-2' again and I am convinced that this is the best Raja album in recent times. The recording is class, the synth inch perfect. 'andala lokam' and 'endhukamma prema prema' are all time great melodies. Love 'masakenuka' for its glorious interludes, the accordian / harmonica effect is superb. And 'rama rajyam'/'yeluthundru' are not something other composers can create only with a synth backing!! The icing on the cake is Raja's own rendition of 'kalagane'. An absolutely satisfying album. Wish his other albums have the same synth quality and recording quality. The major surprise for me has always been the variation in the recording quality of Raja albums!!!
