You can hear the whole album here.

My pick is daydream. Awesome flute piece by Ashwin Srinivasan, It sounds similar to Ashoka theme, as well as numerous lullaby bgms by Raaja sir. However it does maintain its own identity.

As there is no major Ir related news or IR albums coming out now, i am digressing to talk about hollywood composers. I have recently been listening to a lot of Hans Zimmer work and i must say i am hooked. I think he easily is the top composer now(more than 100 movies and lots of big movies during last decade have his music) if you leave John Williams aside. Hans seems to be a unique blend of electronic and orchestral music though a little heavy on synthesizers. But his music has a lot of depth and he seems to be very versatile having composed for a variety of movie types including animation. I think you guys should listen to his score for Inception which is mind boggling and am amazed as to how it did not win an Oscar. Other scores i liked was Dark Knight( this is one eerie score with lot if innovative sounds) and Sherlock Holmes which showcases his adaptability in composing a different style. Though he is a self admitted synth heavy composer he still uses a lot of orchestra and like IR writes the entire score including orchestration himself albeit on a computer and not on paper. His work on electronic music is considered pioneering and lot of what our modern md's like ARR and Yuvan do pale in comparison.

Snippet from Naatyaachaarya V.P. Dhananjayan interview:

"‘Kann Sivandhaal Mann Sivakkum,' the 1982 film with Jaishankar, Rajesh and Poornima Jayaram in the lead, had Dhananjayan playing a part! A half hour solo performance of ‘Nandanar Charitram' was included. “I worked on it for six months,” remembers Dhananjayan. T.V. Gopalakrishnan and Ilaiyaraja headed the composing crew. Filmed in the open air theatre of Cholamandal Artists Village, with huge torches of flame providing the light, it was 15 days of industriousness for the unit. So Dhananjayan's disappointment was immense when the sequence was edited to run for just five minutes! “I refused to watch the film. Sridhar Rajan, the director, was upset too. But when I heard that my segment evoked a lot of response, on the last day of its run, I decided to pay a visit to the cinemas. I was surprised when I was mobbed! The crowd wanted to know why I didn't appear for a longer time!” laughs Dhananjayan.

I thought it was ilaiyaraaja's solo. And also, I thought he collaborated only with two composers so far - MSV and Dakshina Murthy (Kaveri, a malayalam film). This collaboration with T.V.Gopalakrishnan is news to me.

"Gonjasufi" samples IR's SADMA (yeh hawa yeh fiza) track for his "A Sufi and a Killer" (year:2010) album. Song is titled "Sheep". Never heard of this GonjaSufi!

I was searching for a better quality "yeh hawa" song (just for the mind boggling base guitar). I found the below link, which again talks about the sampling, but the audio quality is very good.

Raagas, any idea how are the songs from the movie "Kaveri" ? I have never heard. Will see if I can listen to it on the internet somewhere.

    thanks,

Mein Tenu Samjhawan ki by Rahat Fateh Ali Khan from Pak movie Virsa sounds to me as if its drawn inspiration from IR/MVs Oru Thangarathil

Please listen to RFAKs song which released last year. For all we know Raja could have a wide following from our neighbours nextdoor.
