The Mani Ratnam connect
Shankar seems to have always taken fancy to casting heroines first chosen by Mani Ratnam. He cast Madhubala in Gentleman right after she did Mani Ratnam's Roja. Similarly, he cast Aishwarya Rai Bachchan in Jeans after Iruvar and Manisha Koirala in Indian after Bombay. Samantha is currently doing Mani Ratnam's Kadal. Coincidence?

Samantha beats Kajal, Tamannaah-times of india

Acting means a rat race some people say and involves the number game. So who is ace- ing it right now? She was introduced in a small budget film in 2010 starring Adharvaa and directed by Badri Venkatesh.
Today, Samantha Ruth Prabhu is the actress who is most wanted by directors in Tamil and Telugu cinema. She was introduced by Gautham Menon in T-Town with his Telugu remake of Vinnaithandi Varuvaaya (Ye Maaya Chesave) with Naga Chaitanya and since then, there has been no looking back!
Currently, sitting pretty at the top of the league, Samantha pockets a cool 1 crore for her films. And this despite her not having a single release as a lead heroine in Tamil!
While Anushka Shetty, who's said to charge 1.5 cr per movie, is her closest rival in terms of bagging A-list projects, the young actress has dethroned her - Samantha has already bagged Gautham Menon trilingual project and Mani Ratnam's Kadal; sources say some more big projects are in the pipeline, including Shankar's next with Vikram.
Kajal Aggarwal and Tamannaah, say industry insiders, are at No 2 and No 3 respectively in Tollywood. However, this is not the scene in Kollywood. Tamannaah seems to have virtually disappeared from the Tamil film industry post her disastrous movie Venghai with Dhanush. However, Kajal has managed to keep herself in top 5 in Kollywood by bagging Vijay's Thuppaki and Suriya's Maatrraaan.
While Kajal is said to charge 1 crore per flick, Tamannaah is apparently getting between 70-80 lakh per film. Surprisingly, these two actresses are even competing in Bollywood - if Kajal has Akshay Kumar's next, Tamanaah has Himmatwala with Ajay Devgn.
Meanwhile, Amala Paul, who many feel is just the flavour of the season, recently put to rest rumours that she was asking for 1 crore per film. Her ask is said to be between 40-50 lakh per Telugu film. Though she may not be getting as much in Tamil, her success on-screen has definitely had people take notice of her. But whether she'll make it to the next level remains to be seen.
