TR is one composer who shaped Rahman's music sensibilities during his formative years....whether it was a positive thing that AR took or a negative take away, only AR can tell.....so TR is entitled to take some credit for it
that video defines the very saying "Music transcends boundaries"..........AR's music is bigger than himself, obviously and in many ways its bigger than music itself
and AR keeps defining and redefining it constantly.......hardcore brahmin boys adoring sufi songs, paki guys liking indian patriotic songs - just amazing

Breaking the barriers through one medium - Music
I learned long ago, never to wrestle with a pig. You get dirty, and besides, the pig likes it.

IMO "Anbendra" is the best example of transcending barriers. A Christian song sung by a Hindu and composed by a Muslim.

A tribute to Rahman's twentieth year in the industry
TNN Sep 11, 2012, 12.00AM IST
Tags:Slumdog Millionaire|roja|Raihana|Danny Boyle|A R Rahman(A R Rahman )This year is a landmark year for A R Rahman as it marks his 20th year in the film industry. The Mozart of Madras began his career with the seminal 'Roja' in 1992, which revolutionised Indian film music. He also won international acclaim with Danny Boyle's 'Slumdog Millionaire' for which he received two Oscars and Grammys.
And the celebrated composer is still going strong with over half-a-dozen high profile projects like Superstar Rajinikanth's Kochadaiyaan, Mani Ratnam's Kadal, Shankar's I and Yash Chopra's untitled movie in Hindi.
Now, to celebrate the Mozart of Madras's milestone, his sister Raihana is planning to hold a grand musical event in October along with a city-based music group. The event is expected to have popular actors and filmmakers from Kollywood who have worked with the maestro as special guests.
