Infact, I'd like to take some credit for some improvement in this world. You might have noticed the recent mobile ad (which advertises instant song downloads). In Hindi, when the college bully roars "jaanthe ho main kaun hoon", the girl downloads and plays "Tu Cheez Badi hai mast mast". In Tamil, you might have noticed they have translated this to the tamil song "nee dhaan oru mirugam".

Onsappanatime, it used to be not like this. They'd have recorded the same tune with tamil lyrics written newly "nee periya cheese aha arumai arumai" andha mAdhiri.

Yeah. It was திருமறைக்காடு when அப்பர் sang and it became வேதாரண்யம் later. Unfortunately people think the other way round.

அவதானம் is a word that came from the சிறுபத்திரிக்கை world. And it was used for observation. Like சமூகவியல் அவதானம்- sociological observation...by extension it is also kinda used to mean inference - for which I like the word கண்டடைவு.

அவதானித்தல் பெரும்பான்மையும், ஈழத் தமிழர்கள் மூலமாகவே - தமிழ்நாட்டின் சிற்றிதழ் மற்றும் வெகு மக்கள் தளத்துக்கு வந்திருப்பதாகத் தோன்றுகிறது.

P_R, agree with you on the sanskritization of Thamizh, not just at an ilakkiya level, but even in the language we speak every day. I think we’ve reached a level where many of us’ve assumed the Sanskrit-derived words to be the ones that are appropriate/correct while the actual thamizh words have kinda faded into some sorta oblivion (and sometimes if one does use such words, it suddenly appears forced/unnatural). I’m not complaining or lamenting that Sanskrit has become prevalent in the language for this appears to be the way that most languages ‘evolve’ with time. Rather, it’s the fading away of ‘original’ thamizh words that’s in a way ‘destroying’ a language. Anubavam, kaalam, adhrushtam, avasaram, baaram, saadharanam, yOsanai… ippidi sila pala sorkalukku thamizh soll ennEnnu yOsikka vEndirukku.

Can you image the ridicule the word சொற்பொழிவு would have drawn when introduced to replace பிரசங்கம்?

4. 'thamizh peru vecha vellakkaaran ellaam pronounce panradhu kastam... namma perae epdi kastapattu explain panna vendi irukkunu unakku theriyum illa.. n for nation, a for alfa, a for alfa, i for india' apdinu...

my good friend said this when we were arguing why he named his son aarav... adha vechu jaadhi, madham, naadu edhuvum theriya koodaadhaam... global name'aam... losing ur identity is global???
