Yeah. It was திருமறைக்காடு when அப்பர் sang and it became வேதாரண்யம் later. Unfortunately people think the other way round.

it was மரைமான் காடு - மரைமான் என்பது ஒரு வகை மான் அந்தப் பகுதியில் அதிகம் வாழ்ந்த மான் வகை (மரைக்காடு என்று தேய்ந்தது) . When the vedics slowly gained influence, it transformed into மறைக்காடு and then finally after soem centuries vedics decided to do away with thamizh வேதாரண்யம் என்று ஆக்கி விட்டார்கள் (which didnt succeed mainly due to the efforts of maRaimalai adikaL, parithimAl kalaignar, bhArathithAsan et al)
