Indian Rupee with Prithviraj, Ustad Hotel with Mamoooty's son and a couple of movies with Mohan Lal all came out after his bitter fight with the stars. During NT's final 15 years, he was awarded Chevalier and might have attended a dozen felicitation functions but acted in craps like Poo Parikka Varugirom and Mannavaru Chinnavaru.

I saw even this Thilagan in a spectacular Tamil movie, starring Jithan Ramesh and Namitha...

Big diff is NT was plagued by various illness that kinda made it impossible for him to act in strenuous and meaty roles. Thilagan's problems were admittedly self made - but look around - there are not many in MF to take on thilagan's mantle. The credit must be given to the new wave malayalam film makers who have stolen the thunder from the big two actor's coterie and have broken new grounds where a performer like thilagan can actually shine with ease. however those years when thilagan was waging a war with the establishment and silly unions in malayalam film world, were a big loss for many of his fans.
Apparently, a democracy is a place where numerous elections are held at great cost without issues and with interchangeable candidates.
