Thuppakki mints Rs.65.32 crore worldwide in opening week
    Indo-Asian News Service | Tuesday, November 20, 2012 ( Chennai )

The film, directed by A.R. Murugadoss, opened on Diwali, November 13, and hit over 1,000 screens worldwide.

Vijay-starrer Tamil action-thriller Thuppakki collected Rs.65.32 crore worldwide in its opening week.

"The film collected Rs.65.32 crore worldwide in the first week. In Tamil Nadu, 'Thuppakki' raked in Rs.40 crore and above in the first six days and it continues to run to packed houses. It is also doing good business in neighbouring states such as Kerala and Andhra Pradesh," trade analyst Trinath told IANS.

The film, directed by A.R. Murugadoss, opened on Diwali, November 13, and hit over 1,000 screens worldwide.

According to trade analyst Taran Adarsh, Thuppakki collected Rs.1.18 crore in Britain, Rs.1.76 crore in the US and Rs.37.99 lakh in Australia, in its opening weekend.

The movie's story is about a captain from the Indian army, played by Vijay, who is on a vacation in Mumbai and gets involved in a terrorist scheme, which turns out to be bigger than anticipated.

The makers had to cut a few scenes from the film a few days after its release in Tamil Nadu, following concerns raised by members of the Muslim community who felt that certain scenes would hurt their sentiments.

"Some scenes were cut following the protest, but that hardly had any impact on the film's run at the box-office," Trinath added.

Kajal Agarwal, Satyan, Mano Bala, Vidyut Jamwal and Jayaram feature in key roles in the film, which has music by Harris Jeyaraj, cinematography by Santosh Sivan and editing by Sreekar Prasad.

Of course, the movie has its own share of drawbacks - ARM padatha mudichuttu ory thabA audience'a pAkkurathillayA... felt the same thing even in Ghajini / 7AM arivu...epdiyA indha padathula unakku 4 Duet vekka manasu varuthu.. it is almost certain that you may forget what happened earlier after each duet.. songs onnu kooda naala illa (incl google in which the saranam is straight rip-off from aachi manorama's portion in Madrasa sutthi (May maadham). The movie would have been much much better had all the 4 duets been cut. To my surprisem HJ faired well in important sequences. Still, he was clueless in the title track (reminds KK title track). Other technical aspects like cinematography, editing, stunts ellam nallA irunchu...

Overall, a neat action entertainer from ARM-Vijay

P.S: This is my 4th movie Chrompet Vetri. Earlier, I watched Endhiran, Naan E & Kalakalappu. So far, 4-0 for me as well as box office.

Why is the dog called sniper dog? Saw it being mentioned on Twitter a few times but it doesn't make sense?

Not Sniper. Sniffer dog. It means a trained dog which uses it sense of smell to detect things. Sniper is an entirely different one. It means a professional marksman.

    Chennai Diwali Box-Office (Nov. 13 to 18)
    Tuesday, 20 November , 2012, 13:52

Ilayathalapathy Vijay’s AR Murgadoss directed Thuppakki has stormed the Diwali box-office. It has taken an earth shaking 6- day Diwali thundering box-office and is the clear number one by a mile. The film has netted approximately Rs 4.60 Crore from 41 screens in six days, which is awesome.
No other film has touched even one fourth of Thuppakki`s Diwali opening. At number two is Podaa Podi, which is above average and is being liked by the multiplex audiences. In the third place is Shah Rukh Khan’s Jab Tak Hain Jaan the other big Diwali release which is just average.

And in the fourth place is the steady super hit Pizza, which is still getting good audiences during the Diwali weekend. It has already taken a share of Rs 1.36 Crore from Chennai city, which is very good considering the film was made for Rs 1.55 Cr!

And in the fifth place is Thangar Bachchan’s Ammavin Kaipesi, which would have done better if it was not released for Diwali.

    Thuppakki
Cast:Vijay, Vidyut Jamwal, Kajal Aggarwal, Sathyan
    Director: AR Murugadoss
    Vijay, Screenplay, Fast paced
    Loop holes in story
    Trade Facts :Humongous opening
