One little cute scene that I like in ‘Deepam’ is; when Sujatha comes to NT’s house with his sister, without knowing he’s going to be there. After his sister moves away to prepare lunch, NT tries to get in Sujatha’s good books, He babbles that he doesn’t stay out late anymore, comes straight home after office. Then he would ask her whether she knows about a cyclone and her reply would be just a ‘hmm’, he would then utter; “what do you call, a kind of cyclone”. Then he would chuckle himself; having realized that he was actually trying very hard to impress her! A little embarrassment would pop up on his face instantly! Very cute! I rewound it and watched that scene a few times! While enjoying NT’s strong and long emotional performances, I like these kinds of minute treats too! When our NT experts say that he goes under the skin of the character, it means he imagines himself of that character’s tiny reactions too, I guess.
