Thank you Paramasivan for bringing this up again! I remember you complaining a while back about KJY pronouncing it as "kili" instead of the correct way which, according to you, was "கிழி"/"kizhi"!!!

Yes, I was refering to his song "Poovili vaasalil yaradi vanthathu kiliyE KiliyE instead of KizhiyE KizhiyE. BTW I am no expert in Tamil Literature, I did not study tamil at all, I can only read/speak in tamil, but I can't write in Tamil

Paramasivan: Don't pretend like the problem is that you do not know how to "right" கிளி in English! Whenever you run out of things to say on mayyam pages, you go back to KJY singing "கிலியே கிலியே"! : For example, this is what you posted (again) on July 8, 2011:

Following your postings that I quoted on March 6, 2013, there was a lot of discussion about it. I was sure that you then understood how to write "ழ" and "ள" and "ல". Again, to refresh your memory:

KJY never had problem with ழ.

It was his Malayali way of pronouncing ள that created some issues. It was his slightly softer way of singing கிளி, which is acceptable in Kerala but not in TN, created irritation.

It almost sounded like கிலியே கிலியே to our ears

Yes, param it was 'parrot, parrot' (i.e. கிளியே கிளியே) and not 'tear, tear' (கிழியே,கிழியே)

KizhinA sollanum? KiLi-nu dhAnE sollaNum

That was Param's confusion, Plum

kiLi (parrot) is intended and KJY did right according to Malayalees. Per Tamils, he softened it to 'kiliye' and was fearful.

(The tearing apart was Param's and not mine, no need for kizhi here)
