Kalthoon

The movie released in 1981. It was the year which was ruled by the now Super Star Rajini & Kamal but nonetheless it could stop our very own NT from giving a 100 days movie . Remember it was a stage drama previously before being made into a movie also during beginning of 80’s there was a mania for north Indian movies among Tamil audience . Inspite of all these odds against him NT delivered a hit.
To some NT patrons who have not watched it , the story is about Paramasiva Gounder who lives happily whith his wife KR Vijaya( Parvathi) and two sons ( Ganapathi& Palanisamy) and ever relaiable servant (Nagesh) . NT’s brother in Law is Major who incidentally is also , a director of the movie.
NT is head of the village and most respected in the village. His second son ( Thilak) now known as Kalthoon Thilakji goes to Coimbatore to study medicine. Though good at studies , he is a spoiled brat . He rapes a girl , when questioned by his father he ill treats him and challenges to defeat him in front of village.

Considering the year 1981 the movie was little outdated. Barring the performances of NT & Kalthoon the actors were just adequate. But inspite of all the odds NT does justice to the role to the core again. Irrespective of good and bad movies NT performance can never be termed bad.
NT performance sorry his ability to get into the skin of character is once again evidenced in the movie . He is literally Paramasivan Gounder.
Many scenes stand a testimony to NT ‘s acting
When NT & his wife is about to go to his son’s college he wears a silk shirt & Dothi which is too small as NT is fat compared to his original shirt size which tears & NT reaction to it is just too comical . KR Vijaya even makes fun of his size(நீங்களும் நானும் பராசக்தி படத்துக்கு போகும் பொது எங்க அப்பா வங்கி கொடுத்தது அப்போ நீங்க ஒல்லியா இருந்திங்க ) to which he shoots back என் உடம்பு வேணா மாறி இருக்கலாம் அனா என் மனசு அப்புடியே இருக்கு and describes KRV’s change in hip size is a testimony of real husband & wife casual remarks.
Thilak’s performance was too good that he was referred as Kalthoon Thilkajji thereafter but the casting was really bad, Nagesh as NT’s adopted son was something hard to digest atleast for me.Also Manorama as small girl wearing Chuditar and comedy track was also too pale
Nothing more to say as it is definitely one man show of NT which ensured the movie was a success. He carried the burden of making a movie successful one and succeeded in it quite comfortably

அருமை, என்ன ஒரு ஸ்டைல். நடிகர் திலகமே நீ ஒருவர் தான் ஸ்டைலுக்கு ஸ்டைல் , வசூல் சக்ரவர்த்தி, உலகின் மாமெரும் நடிகர் என பல விதமான முகம் கொண்ட உலகின் ஒரே நடிகர்.

நிறைகுடம் ததும்பாது என்ற வார்த்தை கேற்ப திரைபடத்தில், வாழ்வில் வாழ்த்து காட்டிய மகானே.

மகன்கள், மகள்கள், பேரன்கள், பேத்திகள் என நிறைவான, முழுமையான வாழ்கை வாழ்த எங்கள் தலைவரே உன்னை வணக்குகிறோம்.

VAA KANNA VAA

The movie was telecasted last night in Murasu Tv which tells us the real love of a old man(NT) with a small kid .

NT and Sujatha are elderly playful couple leading a happy life . In comes Jaiganesh and Vaduvukuarasi , a newly wedded couple( Love marriage). They enter as tenants .
NT ‘s servant is Nagesh and VKR is his friend. The first few scenes where NT & Sujatha play with each other is a real treat to watch especially when Jaiganesh comes to enquire about the house , NT remarks about himself( Self depreciation) is a real treat for his acting.
In due course of time both NT & Jaiganesh get along with each other very well when Major( NT’s rich father) comes to meet him. In an interesting scene where Major thinks NT as lunatic & NT thinks Major as lunatic , the two veterans subsequent reaction definitely rises the humour quotient.
Now back to the story , Vaduvukuarasi gets preganant, the elderly couple celebrate it in their own way and conduct a function but during delivery time , they shut the door and do not offer help which irks Jai Ganesh it is at that point Nagesh steps in and reveals the sad flash back about the couple.
NT & his wife had a girl child who was happily married but during pregnancy dies, in a desperate attempt to come out of the grief both NT & Sujatha turn playful.
The scene where NT’s daughter dies, NT gets exhausted and utters
அழுதுகொண்டே அவர் வெட்டி ஜரிகை ஐ கழித்து இறந்துபோன அவர் பெண் ஓட காலில் கட்டி அவர் மனைவி சுஜாதா மற்றும் நாகேஷ் இடம்
பொண்ணுக்கு கால்கட்டு போடணும் சொன்னயே இப்போ போட்டேன் அம்மா. நாகேஷ் இடம் திரும்பி பொண்ண தோள்மேல தூக்கி வளர்தேன் இப்போ தான் சொன்னயே இப்போ அதே தோள்மேல தூக்கிட்டு போ டா பா.

It is really a touching scene. The movie then takes a murky turn where Jai & NT compromise when NT & Sujatha secretly watches new born baby to which NT replies நாங்க உன்னோட குழந்தையை பர்கல காத்து வாங்க வந்தோம்
NT becomes over affection with that boy Krishnan and celebrates him every day. He even jumps into well thinking the boy got drowned while playing with him , settles the debt of Jai.
But as fate would have it Jai decides to get back to his father which forces his wife to move away from him which ultimately upsets NT emotionally.
But Major , a good hearted man just checked his daughter in law’s character and accepts her as his daughter in law publicly meanwhile NT becomes a lunatic imagining Kannan , VKR sets out to find Kannan and comes to Chennai , NT at one night thinking Kannan jumps into the same well seeing NT’s body she too dies in shock only to be watched by that boy. The climax scene nearly for 5 minutes has no dialogues only close up expressions of NT. The way he hops and moves in search of the boy inspite of landing in thorns and finally jumping in well is really tear jerker
That’s Vaa kanna vaa
As usual NT evokes class in the role given to him. He is really a wonder as said by Gopal sir. I saw this movie only when it was discussed in the thread forgot that hubber name, due thanks to him. It was a hundred days movie , after few years he gave SAngili, Sandhipu many more commercial hit movies . Those who ridicule him that he does not play his age can kindly watch this movie & for those who mentioned SAngili, Sandhipu it is just a variety just like Kamal switching from action to comical roles as Vasu sir’s experience in cuddaore theate for Sandhipu is a testimony.( Sir why don’t you write more like that)
The make up was good for NT , but seeing Sujatha in that old get up was just irritating particularly after seeing her in same old roles like Andaman Khadali, Sandhipu etc where she eludes class but performance wise no doubts in her skills
It is Sivaji Productions movie which is incidentally a remake of a telugu movie raa kanna raa
