Dear RKS. I agree with what you feel and say. Let us not give way for ego clashes. This is what I too request all our fellow hubbers for the smooth sailing of our threads. I will be happy if you take over soon the responsibilities since we all believe in your dynamism and the 'event management' calibre! From my side also I take all efforts to bring back our friends to conclude this thread shortly. I have also come nearer to your mood...now let us both watch this song for its relevance with the situation!Enjoy the sub-titles too!

When stones are thrown at us, let us learn the art of building a resistance wall using those stones. In my humble opinion it is better to practice the art of fighting without fighting. Ego clashes in our thread .... if the outcomes are constructive...soon the clashes will disappear like a mist in sunlight. If the same are destructive,.....better the egos disappear! NT had remained the legend who went through all sorts of comments and criticisms .. but converted them as the rungs of his success ladder!

    UTHTHAMA PUTHTHIRAN : trivia

    Production[edit]
In those days, it was technically very difficult to film movies which call for double roles. Though computer technology was non-existent those days, filming was very well executed. There was nothing much to my dance performance in Utthama Puthiran. I had already mentioned I was a good dancer, having been trained in the art of traditional Indian dance. The dance performance for Utthama Puthiran was different. The credit goes to the dance master, Heera Lal, who conceived the dance and choreographed it with fast steps and claps.

    —Sivaji Ganesan in his autobiography[2]
    Development[edit]
When Venus Pictures came out with an advertisement of their film Uthama Puthiran in a newspaper with Sivaji Ganesan in the leading role, the same day actor MGR announced a same-titled film in the same paper on the same day. With the help of N. S. Krishnan, Ganesan made MGR scrap his plan of making the same film. MGR persisted his with his plans to make a double action film and finally made Nadodi Mannan, and released it much after Uthama Puthiran.[1]

    Filming[edit]
The film was scripted by Sridhar. Cinematography was handled by Aloysius Vincent. Bollywood dancer Helen was recruited to perform a dance sequence in the song Yaaradi Nee Mohini, which was Tamil cinema's first "rock ‘n’ roll dance".[6][7]

During the shooting of the song Unnazhagi at Brindavan, a foreigner visiting India requested permission to shoot the scenes with his camera, and permission was granted. Both the cinematographer and the foreigner simultaneously shot the song and dance sequence from the same angles. Zoom technique was unknown to Indian film technicians those days, but the foreigner's camera had it. When the crew learnt this, they requested the foreigner to provide a copy of his version to be used in the film, and he obliged.[1]

Though the foreigner had used 16mm, the crew managed to use some zoom shots taken by him in the film. Thus, Uthama Puthiran became the first Indian film to have the shots with zoom technique.[1]

    Influences[edit]
Uthama Puthiran is a remake of the same-titled 1940 film that featured P. U. Chinnappa in two distinct roles, notably the first Tamil film to feature an actor in two roles.[8] It is also said to be adapted from the French novel The Man in the Iron Mask, written by Alexandre Dumas in 1850.[9] The story of identical twins was used often in Tamil cinema, and Dumas himself used it to write his famous The Corsican Brothers which was also adapted into Tamil. The Gemini Studios version Apoorva Sagotharargal with M. K. Radha playing the twins was a box office hit. M. G. Ramachandran played the twins in a rehash of the film titled Neerum Neruppum, which did not do as well.[3] Uthama Puthiran (1958) also was the inspiration behind Imsai Arasan 23m Pulikesi, a 2007 historical comedy film starring comedian Vadivelu as the twins.[10]

The Man in the Iron Mask (1939 film)
    From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Man in the Iron Mask is a 1939 American film very loosely adapted from the last section of the novel The Vicomte de Bragelonne by Alexandre Dumas, père, which is itself based on the French legend of the Man in the Iron Mask.

The film is notable for containing the first screen role for Peter Cushing.[2] It was also notable for being the source of several subsequent remakes. The film was directed by James Whale and stars Louis Hayward as royal twins, Joan Bennett as Princess Maria Theresa, Warren William as d'Artagnan, and Joseph Schildkraut as Nicolas Fouquet.

    Plot[edit]
The 1939 adaptation alters history significantly by making Fouquet (Joseph Schildkraut) a thoroughly evil, scheming mastermind. He, Colbert (Walter Kingsford), d'Artagnan (Warren William) and the musketeers are the only ones who know of the existence of a twin brother, and Fouquet uses his influence to keep everyone silent. The main story was changed by portraying Louis XIV as selfish, cruel, and incompetent, and Philippe the kind-hearted brother who is raised by d'Artagnan and the musketeers and does not even know that he has an identical twin.

When the truth is discovered, Louis XIV has Philippe imprisoned with an iron mask placed on his head, hoping that Philippe's beard will grow inside the mask and eventually suffocate him. Philippe is rescued by the musketeers, who break into the sleeping Louis's chamber and imprison him in the mask. The guards drag off Louis and lock him in the Bastille, mistaking him for the escaped Philippe.

When Louis manages to get a message to Fouquet, he is freed, and a chase by coach ensues to stop Philippe from cementing an alliance with Spain by marrying Princess Maria Theresa (Joan Bennett), whom he loves, and taking Louis' place on the throne. The coach is waylaid by the musketeers, who all die heroically, but Fouquet and the real Louis XIV are also killed when the driverless coach plunges off a cliff. The mortally wounded d'Artagnan survives long enough to exclaim "God Save the King!" at Philippe's wedding, and then falls dead. Philippe finally assumes the throne.
