Reg. real-estate-prices, I heard a theory from a reasonably-well-informed-business-man.

During the previous decades, tax-cheated-corrupt-etc-black money was stashed away in tax havens abroad ("swiss banks").

There were many hassles with that - can't use much in one's life time, danger of losing all money if code is lost, "finger-print-iris-scan" kind of newer measures make sure next-gen cannot access it etc.

So, the new trend is like this :
step 1 : Take the black money as before to tax havens
step 2 : bring it into India ("white") as FDI from letter pad company to letter pad company
step 3: invest in real estate ("greenfield properties" )

Auto is costly but mostly metered, so if its costly for a specific A to B, then its the same for all autowalas. Atleast some control is there.

have to agree after having lived in Bangalore for a few years. Have personally had experience of Cops helping us get Autos late at night and also the price is ok (inspite of the ridiculous 1 1/2 times meter, twice the meter rules). Chennai la I invariably get into fights with every other auto I get into doesnt help that majority of em are owned by thoppai maamas...
