Income tax department raids Tamil film actor Vijay and Nayantara's house

CHENNAI: Income Tax officials raided the premises of actors Vijay, Nayantara and Samantha, and producers and financiers of the Tamil movie "Puli" on Wednesday morning in connection with alleged tax evasion.

Sources said IT sleuths were conducting raids on 35 premises in Chennai, Madurai, Kochi, Thiruvananthapuram and Hyderabad from 7am onwards.

Raids were going on at Vijay's resort and residence, Nayantara's residence and Samantha's residence and Puli producers' Shibu Thameens and PT Selvakumar premises. Raids were also being held on the premises of film financiers Madurai Anbu and Ramesh.

They also raided the residence and office of film producer and distributor Kalaipuli Thanu.

Nayantara is not part of the cast of the Vijay-starrer "Puli."

The movie, directed by Chimbu Devan, is slated for release on Thursday. It was not confirmed if raids were being held on the premises of the film director.
