In my view, Gemini Ganesan was the apt choice to play vellayathevan compared to SSR. In the words of SSR even though GG selection was not satisfactory to NT, one must remember that it was GG's magnanimity and generosity to consult SSR before he accepted the role. GG's role is also a memorable one particularly relief we get through the song sequence Inbam Pongum Vennila. Imagine SSR with PBS voice? when you close your eyes and listen to PBS songs, only Gemini strikes to our mind and nobody else including MT or Balaji o Muthuraman or Nagesh or others. Even as NTs kattabomman dominates the proceedings of VPKB. The King or romance GG has done perfect justice to his role, Compared to NT-SSR combo, NT-GG combo was always successful. Even NTs die hard fans like me will accept the fact that in Parthal Pasi Theerum GG had an edge over NT storywise and the film is regarded as a Gemini dominated movie on par with NT. We the NT fans shall always be thankful to the generosity shown by GG, one of the trinity of Tamil Cinema, to have acted alongside our NT, making his presence a sweet contribution (like Kalangalil aval vasantham in Pavamannippu).
