Tbh, I rate thuppakki thalaivaa vijay much more than Jilla Vijay. Regardless, I knew Jilla would be a hit. It's the kind of stuff B and C centers love and what with Vijay's strong family audience base it was inevitable that Jilla would emerge as a box office hit despite the initial negative reviews intentionally spread in twitter and facebook(mostly by people who haven't even watched the movie). I'm however surprised that it's a hit even in A center like Chennai. Amazing. Vijay is on a roll and his future projects sounds even more promising. Bravo.

Well Watched Jilla feels a very long movie.Mohan lal and Vijay chemistry has worked good.

This movie didn't work for me i think blame should be on director and editor.There are many lags in the screenplay and there are lot of unnecessary scenes.
No commercial masala movie can have a tight script(unless the director is Hari) so those lags usually be taken care by "Comedy" but here comedy didn't work or importance was not given to it.Also Vijay's slang was not good.

in second half i expected lot of Mouse and Cat game between Vijay and Mohan lal but seems only Vijay beats that is one of the major reason for slowness.

But nevertheless i should say environment in Theatre was electrifying and made me enjoy this movie.

I am 100% sure Vijay & ARM movie will make up for this.

The Chennai Pongal box-office has been booming. The two new biggies Ilayathalapathy Vijay`s Jilla and Thala Ajith`sVeeramhave been making merry. Both the films have taken gargantuan opening in Chennai city.
The Chennai city limits as per trade is from Inox Mylapore in South Chennai to S2 Cinemas Perambur in North Chennai and includes Udhayam and up to AVM Rajeswari in Vadapalini area, central Chennai screens like Sangam, Abirami and PVR.
Please note S2 Thyagaraja and Mayajaal is in Chengalpet area, as per trade report. But normally Chennai city and Chengalpet collections are passed off as Chennai city collections by the distributor who may be the same for both areas.
The year has started on a bright note for the film trade as both Jilla and Veeram has been declared hits and has taken fabulous opening. The difference in collections between the films is marginal, though Jilla got an advantage as it was screened in the opening week in bigger audis of multiplexes.

Firstly, "These guys are so predictable." is for the poster => just mentioning for the people who are following the views & reply amidst all these arguments and tweeter msgs.

Mahen had registered his disappointment over subtitles few days back. French subtitles innum vedika irrukum. I am not sure, but most of the subtitles are done with a translator application, and just corrections are made if the translator throws junk characters for unidentified words. It at no point of time takes into account the "expression" value of a language, but just its literal meaning. Dialogues can get a pass, but songs - a super LoL - its translated word by word with some fabulous re-arrangement of words, like - You are my Rainbow, You are my rainbow, I hold you in my sky ... tamasa irrukum !

But you see they are trying their best, when we get foreign audiences, I am sure they will give more importance and be attentive towards captions.

Distribution Rights -The distribution rights of Jilla of all regions have reportedly fetched Rs 34 crores for the movie bosses. This by any yardstick is very huge.
Overseas Distribution Right -Jilla was in demand in the countries like Malaysia, UK and some other countries. The producer sold the overseas rights of the various countries considering the fan following of Vijay. Overall, the film has collected Rs 11 crores from different regions.
Kerala Distribution Rights -Kerala market just got bigger for a Vijay movie this time due to the Mohanlal factor. Usually, Illayathalapathy movies' used to fetch 1-2 crores. But this time it was sold for Rs 4 crores to Mohanlal itself.
Karnataka Distribution Rights -Vijay has a good fan following in Karnataka. As a result, his movies often generated good revenue in the neighbouring state. This time, his movie was sold for Rs 2 crore.
Rest of India Rights -The rights of rest of India rights have been sold for about Rs 1 crore. The Telugu rights is expected to fetch somewhere around Rs 3-4 crores.

I think Nesan has done a pretty good job considering his last movie we didn't expect much from him. He still has long way to go. He needs to figure out what his movie style is. This wasn't like any previous Vijay's masala movies where the hero is over glorified by the villains and everyone he meets. There was also a good chemistry between the protagonist and the antagonist. You understand the characters motive by the actions they do instead of people telling about them.

Cheran’s advise to the fans of Vijay and Ajith

Vijay’s Jilla and Ajith’s Veeram released last week and are doing good business at the box-office and have satisfied the people involved in the respective films. Both films are commercial mass entertainers that travelled on a standard format. While both the films may not be a critic’s delight, they have nonetheless satisfied the fans. However the fans of both the actors are hurling insults at each other in social netwoeking platforms.



Talking on this, director Cheran on his official social networking page has expressed that the anticipation levels of the fans to the films have brought in good revenues to the industry. He adds, “Although this is good for the industry in terms of economics, the truth is that an average fan expects much more than this. Not knowing how to express his disappointment, he takes to Facebook and Twitter to throw insults at one another”.



Cheran also advises the fans of both the actors to express their expectations in a very civilized manner to their respective idols and is sure that the heroes will definitely heed to their fans’ request. He also believes that this kind of behavior will surely enable good content, good directors and good revenues to the industry. Absolutely the need of the hour!

Breaking: Vijay says OK to Atlee

Post the success of Jilla, Ilayathalapathy Vijay is apparently on a signing spree. The actor will begin his project with AR Murugadoss very soon, in which he pairs opposite Samantha. Following that will be a film for PT Selvakumar’s banner and Thameens Films.

We now hear that the actor also has given his nod for Atlee. The director of the super hit Raja Rani apparently narrated a script recently to Vijay and the actor was floored it seems. It must be noted that Atlee worked as the assistant director of Shankar in Nanban that starred Vijay in the lead.

Trusted sources of ours reveal that the collaboration might happen soon after the AR Murugadoss project. Atlee might also retain his technical crew from Raja Rani.

Meanwhile, Atlee is ready with a script and The Next Big Film has the dates of the director. Keep a tab on this space for more updates in this regard.

Post 'Jilla', Neason flooded with calls from Telugu filmdom

Chennai, Jan 18 (IANS) Following the success of Tamil action-drama "Jilla", its director R.T. Neason's phone has not stopped ringing. Several leading actors such as Junior NT Rama Rao (NTR) from the Telugu film industry have expressed an interest in working with him.

"I have been getting so many calls from Telugu industry. Junior NTR wants to work with me and so are so many other top actors. I haven't really decided on whom will I work with next but I will be doing a film each in Tamil and Telugu soon," Neason told IANS.

While Neason worked with Tamil superstar Vijay in "Jilla", he confirmed that his next will also feature a star.

"Both my projects will feature star actors. I haven't zeroed in on anyone yet but I'll be working with big stars for sure," he added.

"Jilla", also starring Malayalam superstar Mohanlal, Kajal Agarwal and Pradeep Rawat in important roles, released during Pongal. It struck gold at the box office.

It reportedly minted over Rs. 25 crore within the first week of its release in the country.

Telugu movie producers have expressed interest in the film's remake.

"There has been a lot of buzz there about 'Jilla' remake. We have also received several calls but nothing has been finalised yet," added Neason.

A re-take on Nesan's take, Jilla

Nesan draws a bottom line with his main plot, the relation between a man of fatherly status and a younger version to this man, his adopted son. Sivan, the father, runs his own court room punishing anyone going against him, Yakuza style. Nesan sketches this character in such a way that Sivan's battle for supremacy is also justified as a act of good, projecting Sivan as the savior amidst all the deaths he influences. Interestingly, Nesan implants the power of Sivan, the other side, on his adopted son Sakthi. Normally, it is larger element upon a bigger one, but here he puts them on the same level which is apt for the collaborations and wits they play with each other. Sivan relies on Sakthi for most of his actions, whereas, Sakthi proves he is nothing without Sivan. So far so good. The awesomeness comes when Nesan erects two other lines, not parallel but running opposite to each other which are slowly in motion towards convergence. He plants a diversion between the motives of Sivan and Sakthi. One line he takes into account what happens to Sakthi if it takes over Sivan and the other line he puts forward the idea whats the fate of Sivan without Sakthi. In both lines, he keeps Sakthi as the principle energy at the same time pushes its source Sivan, as the action-bender. Nesan, goes forward and grounds these 2 lines over the initial bottom line with emotions and sentiment, finally allowing them to meet in a decision driven final, making his whole triangular narration style quite peculiar and distinct.

The portrayal of Sakthi took a larger space in the execution, as most of the time Sivan's character is sketched only through gestures such as smoking cigars (thought process), hearing to complains (calmness), threatening over phone lines (the command) and his over confidence towards Sakthi (his creation). Here the motive is to show only the picture - his Power on loose - whats the capability of Sakthi in any given situation as its the power that wins finally no matter what it takes. But how will Power be, before its creator - Thor without his hammer - is what that is considered by Nesan and never how the hammer was made. So Sivan's limitation in the narration is justified. When Sakthi takes the ultimate decision to oppose Sivan, Sivan is left with no other option but to accept the challenge. Nesan puts an emotional lock here bringing in the sentimental excuses for both Sivan and Sakthi from destroying each other, but amazingly gives the key to the evil, who quite happily takes his sweet time to fire up the events even more against Sivan & Sakthi. When Sakthi comes to know about this nasty game, he cannot just rectify the events as he has become more powerful than Sivan himself - the bigger becomes larger. So Sivan cannot see Sakthi as he used to see him, at the same time this width has accompanied Sakthi with much more responsibilities.

Time comes to finish off matters on hand. Even though the evil uses the state of powerless Sivan and sourceless Sakthi for its ugly benefits, it leaves behind many traces, those traces visible by both. Sakthi comes to the rescue of Sivan but Sivan sends him back showing who is the actual supremo. Finally, when the third eye opens, Sivan is convinced about the fact that Sakthi is as important as breathe for Sivan, he orders his Sakthi to bring down the evil that has moved from its shadow form and only his own power can destroy it. Nesan again puts an hand break here, as Sakthi and the evil co-existed. Even though Sivan is the creator of Sakthi, Sakthi has its own motivation. Now Sakthi is hell bent as he just lost his motivation, his younger brother and in front of him is, his other brother who is responsible for his current universal form. Tired, he just sits down with a blurred vision, his tears completely take over his sight, and hands over the decision to Sivan, who had created and fed both, the good & the evil. This particular moment during the climax is the best highlight of supremacy, stating the only difference between Sivan & Sakthi.

Thus, Nesan, signs off by uniting Sivan & Sakthi once again, this time in alignment proving that when the the creator is wrong, his creation can over do his creator to restore harmony, the principle role upon which the creator created his creation.

Chennai,Jan 19 (TruthDive): Jilla and Veeram, Pongal blockbuster releases starring young and emerging stars of Kollywood ,Vijay and Ajith are continuing to have their fantastic collections at the box office worldwide.

According to Kiaara Sandhu, film critic and movie business expert, Vijay-starrer Jilla is expected to enter the elite 100-crore club in a few days from now, having earned a whooping 88 crores worldwide within ten days of its release. Kiaara terms Jilla as an ‘all time mega blockbuster’.

Meantime, Veeram has turned out to be the biggest blockbuster for Thala Ajith, earning a solid 75 crores in worldwide box office and coming close to Jilla collections.

Vijay’s Jilla has smashed Ajith’s Veeram collections at worldwide box office. Jilla reportedly grossed 78 crore in eight days at the worldwide box office, while Veeram collected 65 crore. Going by these numbers, we can say Veeram is trailing behind Jilla in worldwide BO.

Kiaara Sandhu tweeted two days ago that Vijay’s Jilla has broken all records to become the second all-time grosser after Superstar Rajinikanth’s Endhiran.

In line with the fan’s expectations and a lot of pre-release hype created around the two films, Thala and Ilayathalapathy starrers have proved to be biggest hits unveiling a grand start to 2014 Tamil box office.

While Jilla is doing exceptionally well in Kerala due to the huge fan following Vijay enjoys in the state and also because of the presence of Malayalam superstar Mohanlal,Veeram is below mark in the state comparatively.

Post roaring success of Jilla, fresh reports say that the film director RT Neason is flooded with offers from top actors of Telugu film industry and there is also news going around that Telugu movie producers have expressed interest for remaking Jilla.

Well, one has to wait and watch if Jilla will enter the prestigious 100-crore club in the coming days and what Veeram has in store for the fans and those involved in the business.

Jilla - opening VJ intro, pre-climax scenes ithellam konjam pre-Sura VJ movies maathiri aagidumo nu irunthathu..... but post Nanban and thuppakki in particular, the way with which VJ portrays a scene has changed and that alone salvages this and similar such scenes in the film......... and choice of mohanlal to play that role (which at least i thought was kind of similar to sureshgopi's role in Dheena, the angry, egoistic senior dhadha) helped that role not getting cliched..... IMHO, ultimately what could have been an ordinary movie saved largely by Vijay and mohanlal though this had the potential to be more powerful

I watched Jilla -Yesterday 12.45 pm along with my wife in Gopalan cinemas in Bangalore.

Theater occupancy is 40% , My wife being a Vijay fans she liked the movie very much .
For me it is another vijay movie like..vettaikaran ..not like Thuppaki where director utilised vijay strength fully.

+ : Camera work (superb ) , Mohanlal acting (superb screen presence ) ,Action scenes (climax fight ,preinterval fight)

- : Police getup doesn't suit for vijay , comedy , too much violence in climax , Week villan.

This is my openion..note: My daughter (5 years old) liked veeram more than Jilla :)

Day 11:

Almost all shows in Sathyam/Escape were more than 70 percent full and the evening shows are even more impressive.

Jilla slowly and surely moving into the safe zone now.

This is for Escape - Streak 6:50 p.m. show. I am sure this would be full by the time the show starts.
